Contents
RIDT'98 is the successor of the previous conferences RIDT'89 (Lausanne),
RIDT'91 (Boston), and RIDT'94 (Darmstadt). The aim of RIDT'98 is to bring
together scientists and designers/artists and to create the conditions for a
fruitful exchange of views. The conference presents advanced basic and applied
research results in the field of digital typography, artistic imaging and
related issues. The conference program includes presentations from all over
the world, both from academy and from industry. The conference covers the
following subjects:
- Tools and methods for the analysis & synthesis of typographic characters
- Synthesis of non-latin fonts (Perso-arabic, Indian, Korean)
- Typography and design for the World Wide Web
- Artistic 2D-imaging & halftoning techniques
- Typography and human perception issues
- Font and character recognition
- New design concepts
The tutorials focus on colour reproduction and character design.
- Scientists and students interested in typography, design, and
artistic imaging
- Document, font and graphic designers
- Colour reproduction and graphic imaging professionals

- Author Biography:
- Dr. János Schanda is professor at the University Veszprém and Head of
the Department of Image Processing and Neurocomputing. His main
interest is in colorimetry of visual display units (VDUs), colour
rendering and colour appearance. He was for more then 10 years the
Technical Director of the CIE (International Commission on
Illumination). He published many papers on colorimetry, the metrology
of LEDs and VDUs. He is the author of the chapter of colorimetry in the
recently published book on Applied Photometry published by the Optical
Society of America. He is at present chairman of several fundamental
technical committees of the CIE, such as the committees re-writing the
basic publications on colorimetry and colour rendering and is raporteur
for improved colorimetry.
