An Asic for Outline Character Generation

Marc Morgan, R.D. Hersch

International Conference Anaheim May 1991,Published in SID'91 Digest, Vol XXII, pp 201-204

Abstract This paper presents the design and implementation of an ASlC for real-time rasterization of characters described by their outline based on vertical scan-conversion and flag fiIl algorithms. The chip is a coprocessor which rasterizes outline fonts given by Bézier splines and straight line segments. It generates high quality fonts 30 times faster than the equivalent assembly language code on a 16 MHz M68020.
